Terms of use
Last updated 30 September 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use Upbeat. We have tried to write them so that you can read them in a few minutes. If anything is unclear, write to hello@upbeat.page.
In short
- Upbeat is free to use. If we ever charge for anything, we will tell you first, and you will never pay for something you have not agreed to.
- What you add stays yours. You let us store it and show it to your group, and nothing more.
- Only upload sheet music you are allowed to share. Many editions are still in copyright, even when the composer is not.
- Be decent to the people in your groups.
- Suggestions from Find new works come from an AI model and can be wrong. Check before you buy music or plan a concert.
- You can leave at any time by deleting your account on your profile.
Who we are
Upbeat is run by Ben Leavett EI (entrepreneur individuel), trading as Cadence Digital, SIRET 104 365 267 00012, [address] ("we"). How we handle personal data is explained in the privacy notice, at upbeat.page/privacy, which goes with these terms.
Who can use Upbeat
You can use Upbeat if you are 15 or over, or younger with a parent's or guardian's agreement. An account is for one person. You sign in with a code sent to your email address, so keep that inbox to yourself: anyone who can read it can sign in as you.
Groups and admins
- Whoever creates a group is its first admin. Admins can invite and remove members, make other members admins, change the group's settings, add and remove works, dates and sheet music, remove comments, and delete the group.
- A group is run by its admins, not by us. We do not read or moderate what groups do, but we act on what is reported to us (see Reporting a problem).
- If you are an admin, invite only people who would expect to hear from your group, and use members' contact details only to run the group.
- A deleted group can be restored by its admins for 30 days.
What you add
- You keep the rights to what you add: works, comments, notes, links and files.
- You give us permission to store it, to copy it as far as running Upbeat needs (backups, for example), and to show it to the members of your group. That permission lasts as long as it is in Upbeat.
- You must have the right to add it. For sheet music, that means works in the public domain (for example from IMSLP), parts your group has bought or hired on terms that let the group share them, or music you wrote or arranged yourself.
- You are responsible for what you add, sheet music included. We do not check files before your group sees them, but we remove anything we learn breaks the law or someone's rights (see Reporting a problem).
- Links to recordings open on the provider's own service (Spotify, SoundCloud and others), under its own terms.
What you must not do
- Break the law, or infringe anyone's rights, including copyright.
- Harass, threaten or abuse anyone, or post hateful or sexual content.
- Invite people who have not agreed to hear from your group, or use Upbeat to send unwanted messages.
- Try to get into groups or accounts that are not yours, get round limits, overload or probe the service, or copy it in bulk.
Find new works
Suggestions are written by an AI model made by Anthropic, from a description of your group (see the privacy notice for exactly what is sent). They can be wrong: a work may not exist in the form described, and its length or difficulty may be off. Treat them as ideas to look into, not as facts.
The service
- Upbeat is provided as it is. We work to keep it running and your data safe, but we cannot promise that it will always be available or free of mistakes.
- We may change or remove features. If a change takes away something you rely on, we will tell you in Upbeat before it happens.
- If we ever close Upbeat, we will tell you at least 60 days before.
Reporting a problem
If something in Upbeat breaks the law, infringes your rights or breaks these terms, write to hello@upbeat.page, saying where it is and why. We will look at it promptly, and may remove it. We will tell the person who added it what we did and why, unless the law stops us.
Suspending or closing an account
You can delete your account at any time on your profile. We may remove content, or suspend or close an account, that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms or the law. We will tell you what we did and why, and you can reply to contest it.
Responsibility
- Nothing in these terms takes away your rights as a consumer.
- We are responsible for harm we cause through our own fault, as the law provides.
- We are not responsible for what other members add, for the decisions your group makes, or for services we link to or rely on that we do not run (for example Spotify or Anthropic), except as the law requires.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we will update this page and its date. If a change matters, we will tell you in Upbeat at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can delete your account before then.
Law and disputes
French law applies to these terms. If you live in another country of the European Union, you also keep the protection of its consumer law. If you have a complaint, write to us first and we will try to put it right. If we cannot, you can go to the courts that the law allows you to.
